In the bustling heart of Kolkata, a piece of automobile history has been meticulously restored to its former glory. The 1928 Ford Model T, once a proud emblem of The Statesman’s legacy, is set to make a triumphant return to the limelight as it gears up to participate in the Automobile Association of Eastern India’s Kolkata Vintage & Classic Car & Bike Rally 2024, tomorrow. This iconic vehicle, once entrusted to the hands of The Statesman’s Editor, holds a storied past that spans nearly a century.
Nearly twenty years ago, it graced the grounds during The Statesman Vintage And Classic Car Rally under the careful guidance of a senior official, symbolising the spirit of adventure and vintage prowess. However, time had not been kind to the Model T. Like a weary traveller, it succumbed to mechanical maladies, languishing for years with a stubborn starting problem that left it grounded and forgotten. Enter Mr Rajiv Ghosh, a revered restorer renowned for his deft touch with vintage automobiles. With unwavering dedication, Ghosh breathed new life into the ailing Ford, tackling cracked engine blocks and battered bodies with finesse. The gearbox and differential were meticulously repaired, ensuring the vehicle’s inner workings matched the splendour of its exterior.
A fresh coat of vibrant orange paint adorns the sleek curves of the Model T’s frame, while a meticulously crafted cloth roof shelters its passengers from the elements. Ghosh assures that the final touches will be applied after the rally, ensuring every cog and gear hums with precision. The Ford Model T holds a special place in automotive history, a symbol of innovation and accessibility introduced by Ford Motors over a century ago.

As it roars back to life, the Model T serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of the timeless allure of vintage automobiles.
In a world where progress marches relentlessly forward, it’s comforting to know that pieces of history can be lovingly preserved for generations to come. The spectators can look forward to some real fun catching a glimpse of the heritage from Statesman.
