For youth riding SUV fitted with a blue beacon and a board reading ‘Government of India’ heading towards Kolkata along the national highway were intercepted by the police in Memari here last night. A pistol with a magazine was recovered from their possession. The SUV was also seized. The youths identified as Sandip Biswas, Shubham Roy, Kabirul Ali and Akash Dhar hailed from Barasat town and Madhyamgram in North 24-Parganas.
The youths, when initially questioned by police, claimed that they were officials of the Indian Railway Traffic Services, Railway Recruitment Board and the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Charges of impersonation, cheating, and carrying firearms without a permit were slapped on them. They were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court today. The youths, according to police, got involved in an altercation with the residents of Palsit village located beside the NH19 last night.
During the heated exchange, Shubham suddenly produced a loaded pistol and the police were informed immediately. A patrolling van of the Memari police station immediately rushed to the spot and caught the youths. Shubham was dressed in RPF uniform. The police brought them to the Police Station and inquired their identities with the Railway authorities in Burdwan. The Railway authorities categorically stated that the persons in question were not the Railway employees and their identity cards also were forged
