Mamata Banerjee is also welcome to the BJP if she joins the party conforming to the party’s rules and ideology, said Mukul Roy at the state Assembly today. Mr Roy came to the Assembly House reportedly to meet his party’s MLAs. Asked the question, “You have so many complaints against Miss Mamata Banerjee but would you still accommodate her in your party?” Mr Roy said, “If Mamata Banerjee desires to join the party, we will accept her only if she conforms to party’s ideology and rules.”

Mr Roy said that BJP is a vast party and it can accommodate anyone. Asked whether, if Mamata Banerjee joins the BJP, then she would again become the chief minister, Mr Roy said that will be decided later. Earlier, on 9 July, Trinamul Congress had slammed the BJP for allegedly engineering the circulation in social media of a fake membership card bearing the name of Miss Banerjee. The card bore the picture of Mamata Banerjee which stated that she has taken the membership of BJP and her membership number is 4209.

In another post, the membership number is 9512. The Trinamul Congress had said it would take legal action and refer the case to the cyber crime cell so that appropriate action against the culprits can be taken. Mr Partha Chatterjee, secretary general of the party, told reporters at the chief minister’s room at the state Assembly, “We have been telling you from the beginning that the BJP party has been misusing the social media to malign our party supremo.”

Today, when asked about the possibility of the Trinamul’s Raidighi MLA, Debashree Roy’s joining the BJP, Mr Mukul Roy said, “Its a matter of a few days. I’ve not received any objection from anyone.” Earlier, Mr Sovan Chatterjee, former Kolkata mayor, while joining the BJP stated to the media that if Debashree Roy joins the BJP it would be his last day in the party. Mr Roy said it was not Debashree Roy alone, there are many MLAs and ministers who are also not happy in Trinamul and are in constant touch with the BJP.

Asked whether he came to the Assembly today with an aim to pounce on Trinamul MLAS, he said,”No, but if you talk to the insiders of Trinamul Congress, you will find many disgruntled MLAs and ministers. No one gets any independence in the party. It is the party of aunt and nephew (Abhishek). He said that CBI is investigating the Narada sting case at Calcutta High Court order and he has nothing to worry as he has not taken any money. CBI has summoned him in Delhi and he went there to give evidence as a lawabiding citizen.
