As part of the initiative to eliminate level crossings, addressing potential safety hazards, Eastern Railway’s Sealdah division completed the construction of 11 limited height subways (LHS) in the Krishnanagar-Lalgola section within five weeks. According to the Eastern Railway, the insertions of 11 LHS were strategically planned in six blocks, with two subways inserted every Sunday, starting from 19 November, 2023.
Notably, a 10-hour traffic and power block was sanctioned to facilitate safe and efficient LHS insertion, minimizing disruptions for railway users with simultaneous execution of two blocks on the same day. Beyond LHS insertion, the Rs 42-crore project encompasses infrastructure enhancements such as U-troughs, fullcover sheds, and pumping houses with drainage systems to prevent waterlogging. According to the ER, the future plans include the installation of CCTV cameras and digital water level monitoring instruments.
