In a daring shootout at a hotel at Dakshineswar, a team of policemen, in pursuit of a group of miscreants on the run, had to face a barrage of shots fired at them from an alleged miscreant out to fend off an impending arrest, leaving a civic volunteer badly wounded.
Three miscreants were later arrested. According to police, a civic volunteer sustained bullet injuries when a raid was being carried out to nab a group of miscreants, who the police said were involved in a heist at Rahara, North 24- Parganas, recently.
The incident took place, when a team of officers, acting on a tip-off, went to conduct a raid to flush out the alleged miscreants, allegedly checked in to give the men in uniform a slip this afternoon. An officer of the Barrackpore Commissionerate claimed the shootout took place when the police had already succeeded in nabbing two miscreants, who were hiding there.

When it came to round up the third one, in a bid to fend off arrest, opened fire at the officers, leaving the civic police badly injured. The police claimed the officer somehow managed to arrest the miscreant and seized the alleged firearm. The badly injured civic cop, who was believed to have sustained injuries to his one of his legs, had been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
