Calling the CPM as the biggest agent of the BJP, chief minister and Trinamul Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee said the former has destroyed the good relation with the Congress.

Miss Banerjee said, “I had agreed to give two seats in Malda. Congress refused though they do not have any MLA. Am I going to give them 42 seats, which they will not be able to win and lead the BJP to come to power? I have the strength to fight against the BJP,” she said.

She added, “People have seen what the CPM had done in 34 years. They have killed so many people. They had attacked me. In Hariharpara, the CPM had opened fire and killed 8 people.”

She was addressing a gathering at Baharampur this afternoon. She took part in a programme to distribute various government schemes. Nandini Chakravorty, state home secretary was present at the function.

Miss Banerjee announced that she would cancel her trip to Purulia on 6-7 February in view of the Madhyamik examination. “During the examination use of loudspeakers are not allowed following an order of the high court. We follow it strictly and during our dharna on Maidan from 2 February, we will not use loudspeakers and instead, use boxes.

She wished students appearing for Madhyamik, Madrasa, Higher Secondary, High Madrasa, ICSE and CBSE examinations.

Miss Banerjee said the glass of the vehicle in which Rahul Gandhi is travelling was damaged in Katihar in Bihar and not in Bengal. “When his car was passing through Bihar, someone had pelted stones in Bihar and because of Nitish they may not like him. I condemn the incident and such things do not happen here.”

She said, a new private medical college is coming up at Jangipur. It will be built by Zakir Hossain, Trinamul MLA. A land has also been allotted to singer Arijit Singh to do social work.

Miss Banerjee asked the district magistrate to make a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate those who live on the banks of the Ganges. “The erosion has become rampant and those who live on the banks of the river should be taken to safer places. To do this comprehensive survey is required.”

Criticising the BJP, she said, “In the BJP-ruled states, the saffron party is insisting on eating vegetarian food. Who are they to dictate us? Food is an individual’s choice. They have decided to close down the shops selling meat and fish.”

Miss Banerjee laid the foundation stone and inaugurated projects worth Rs 1,100 crore. She urged the parents to give equal importance to their sons and daughters. “We have introduced Kanyashree to help a girl child to carry on with her education. There is a Rupashree scheme which a girl can avail during her marriage.”

She urged the students to study seriously and take Bengal to a different height. “I want you to become IAS and IPS officers. Some of you may go abroad to do higher studies and I request them to come back and serve the country.”
