Commissioner of city police Vineet Goyal today stressed on the need to inculcate awareness while surfing the internet on mobile phones before making any attempt for online transaction or payment to avert the risk of getting defrauded.
“Should such an occasion emerge, one has to immediately inform the police or dial 100 to get his or her complaint lodged, and the police from the cyber cell would immediately look into the complaint to book the culprit,” said Goyal, while addressing a special session at Merchants Chamber of Commerce and Industry today.

He also added that this was one such area that the city police would have to bank on the citizens’ alertness and awareness to address the menace. “The quicker the complaint, the lesser time we would take to address,” said the commissioner.
The police commissioner claimed that the city has experienced a considerable decline in the rate of traditional crimes like robbery, theft and other petty crimes that should be due to early detection and promptness of the officers concerned, bringing to book the offenders involved in this crime.
This, the commissioner had attributed to the installation of CCTVs, which the city police chief said had come in handy to detect cases earlier.
Besides, introduction of technology in the traffic signaling system also augured well for the better management of traffic that showed average speed of vehicular movement had been streamlined and traffic snarls had been minimized.
Patrolling of police on the streets and those prone to crime had been augmented to attend any complaints by the people in distress. Besides, community policing and awareness camps had also contributed in making the city safe and secured.
