Chief minister Mamata Banerjee also visited the residence of the businessman and consoled the aggrieved family members. “I came after I heard this sad news. I also cancelled the political rally in Siliguri. The businessman was very good natured and he has a medicine shop. I have no words to console the family members. This is a heinous crime,” she said.

Eventually, the businessman’s body was discovered on Wednesday after he had gone missing. His body was discovered dumped in a water tank near a residence in the Nimta area and cemented the surrounding area of the water tank, wrapped in a sack. City police commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal said that a business rivalry developed between the businessman and his partners and murder was the fallout. “The businessman was given a promise that his partners will return a due payment of Rs 50 lakh and brought him there and perpetrated the murder,” he said.

According to police sources, the owner of the residence from where the body was recovered was acquainted with the deceased businessman. They were engaged in business together. Initial investigations suggest that this murder might be the result of business rivalry. The businessman was brought to Nimta, where he was brutally murdered with a cricket wicket and then his body was disposed of under the water tank.
Meanwhile, Anirban Gupta and Sumon Das, two locals from Nimta and not related to the businessman were apprehended in connection with this incident. According to police sources, the deceased businessman’s name is Bhabya Lakhani. He was a resident of Bhawanipur. His family alleged that he was kidnapped. Upon investigation, the deceased’s body was recovered from his business associate’s residence in Rabindrapally.
