Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today launched a vehicle location tracking system to track the location and speed of vehicles as well as help police to track crimes on road. “The system will be directly linked to the police control room and will be jointly monitored by the state transport department and police,” said Miss Banerjee while inaugurating the system at Uttirno in Alipore.

According to Miss Banerjee, the facility of “panic button” in the new system will help in monitoring criminal activities and reduction of crime against women. “If any woman falls in trouble while travelling alone then she can press the panic button installed in the vehicle and a message will be sent to the police control room immediately. Following which, police assistance will reach her within no time.

Similarly, if one notices any kind of nuisance on the road then too he or she can press the panic button to alert the police,” she said. Miss Banerjee said that the system will easily track the speed, location and routes travelled by vehicles. Again, the system will help vehicle owners to seek assistance in case of any breakdown, she added. This apart, the chief minister inaugurated a multilevel car parking facility to accommodate around 400 vehicles.

The existing sixfloor parking facility will soon have an additional four floors, she said. On the occasion, Miss Banerjee congratulated the PWD and transport department for completing the work well though she directed PWD to expedite work of Dhanya Dhanya stadium, which has missed its November 2022 deadline. Miss Banerjee announced that the Dhana Dhanya auditorium will be inaugurated before Poila Baishakh in midApril. Designed by Miss Banerjee as a conch shell, she said that it will help in hosting cultural programmes in the area. The construction of the stadium began in December 2017 at a cost of Rs 440 crore and it has a seating capacity of 2,600 people.
