Eyeing huge vote bank of Kurmis (Mahato) and tribal people in Purulia, chief minister Mamata Banerjee has tried to woo them by saying that a Kurmi Bhawan has been set up in Purulia, Adivasi Bhawan in Kolkata, a Kurmi Academy and has given recognition to Kurmi, Santhali, Rajbanshi and several other languages.

“You have returned us empty handed during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Purulia. And we have won only two seats in the 2021 Assembly Polls, but see still today what we have given to you. Today, I am either inaugurating or laying the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 375 crore in Purulia. What benefits the BJP has given you so far and have they come forward to solve your problems?” Miss Mamata Banerjee said.
