CBI serves Rose Valley case notice on Rajeev Kumar
The CBI has asked the officer, Waqar Raza, the deputy commissioner of police (port) to be present before the agency’s officers with files and documents relevant to the Saradha scam.

Seeking to tighten its noose further around former city police commissioner Rajeev Kumar, the CBI served a notice on Kumar in connection with the Rose Valley scam today. The agency’s latest move came at a time when the police official is under the scanner in connection with in the Saradha chit fund scam. The agency is seeking to further corner Kumar, who remained elusive. To make matters worse for Kumar, a notice has been issued to another police officer said to be close to the former city police commissioner in connection with the chit fund scam.
The CBI has asked the officer, Waqar Raza, the deputy commissioner of police (port) to be present before the agency’s officers with files and documents relevant to the Saradha scam. To ratchet up pressure on Kumar, the agency has asked him to appear at its CGO complex regarding the Rose Valley scam by 11 am tomorrow. A source close to the agency said that a notice regarding the Rose Valley scam has been served to Kumar for the first time. A team of five CBI officers went to the CID ADG’s 34 Park Street residence and quizzed his wife Sanchita Kumar for the third consecutive day and served notice on the Rose Valley scam.
Meanwhile, a source said that the DCP (port), Waqar Raza, a close aide to Kumar, had been issued notice in connection with one of the chit fund scams. The agency is conducting the probe under the order of the Supreme Court. Though the source did not specify the particular case about which the cop has been summoned, it is reliably learnt that since he was one of the members of the SIT formed by the state to probe the Saradha scam, the summon was in connection with that case.

Mr Raza, a special superintendent of the CID at the time, was one of the members of the SIT which was headed by Kumar. Asked to comment on the summons, Mr Raza said,” As I am on leave, I have no knowledge about the summons.” Meanwhile, buoyed by the court judgments over the last few days, the CBI continued with its investigation against the ADG CID. The agency has questioned as many as four businessmen suspected to have helped the 1989 batch IPS officer to dodge the CBI dragnet so far.
The four businessmen apart from one travel agent were under the agency’s scanner for some time. Earlier, CBI officers conducted raids at Alipore Body Guard Lines police control room in search of Kumar without any success. Apart from searching areas in and around the city, sleuths also fanned out to several locations in the districts to trace Kumar.
