Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that if his party comes to power it would roll back the recruitment procedure for the Army, opposing the present system under the Agniveer scheme. During the interaction with youths during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra Mr Gandhi said, “If we come to power the recruitment of army and service conditions will be rolled back in consultation with the top Indian Army officials. If the army officials are agreeable to change, it must be rolled back.”

Mr Gandhi said the present central government has started manufacturing arms and ammunition with the help of private organisations so that Adanis can earn more money. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra left for Farakka in Murshidabad district from Sujapur in Malda around 8am today.

Congress leaders, under the leadership of the present MP elected from Malda South Lok Sabha constituency AH Khan Choudhury, are upset as the police did not allow Rahul Gandhi to address the people at Sujapur and even at Kaliachak. On the other hand, the block level Congress leaders could not meet Mr Gandhi due to tight security arrangements by the Special Protection Group (SPG) following the incident of security lapses which happened yesterday as the Yatra was entering into Bengal from Bihar yesterday.

A Kaliachak-based senior Congress leader said, “We have readied two podiums at Sujapur, where Mr Gandhi took rest at night and at Kaliachak. But the police did not give permission so that Mr Gandhi could address the people. Mr Gandhi left the Kaliachak area in Malda around 8.45am.” Mr Gandhi interacted with a group of students of an English medium school for a few minutes at Danga on his way to Kaliachak from Sujapur today.

The Yatra will enter Jharkhand tomorrow tentatively after covering Murshidabad and then Birbhum districts in West Bengal, Congress party sources said.
