The protesting jute mill workers said, “We want the jute mill to run uninterrupted, since our livelihood depends on the jute mill. We have families, we can’t see our children starving. We try our level best to cooperate with the jute mill management to keep the jute mill running. Yet, the jute mill management breaks the agreement that was signed in the month of January. Most of the workers are performing their duty in the previously specified departments for more than 2- decades. The new decision taken by the mill management violating the signed agreement is to force the workers to switch over to new departments. At this stage, it is not possible for us to go for a new training session to switch over to new departments; this act of jute management is illegal and whimsical.”

Another worker added, we protest against the whimsical decision of the jute mill management, it is our demand that the mill management should strictly adhere to the agreement signed. From today onwards, we are sitting on dharna and will go on a hunger strike until the management agrees to abide by the previously-signed agreement.
