KMC engineers study tilted building site at Christopher Rd
Engineers of Kolkata Municipal Corporation inspected and conducted a structural study of the site of the tilted building at Christopher Road today.
An engineer involved in the project said that “every 200 to 300 metres in the tunnel, pits are being dug out and pipelines are being laid from one pit to the other.
In a bid to solve drainage issues in Behala that occur every monsoon, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has opted for a micro tunnelling process where a tunnel boring machine (TBM) is being used for the first time in digging a tunnel to lay pipelines below the ground.
The area of Behala has always fallen victim to waterlogging during the monsoon but the civic body has finally found a method which is being used for the first time in the city to lay pipelines below the ground. It was learnt that the project is being carried out with assistance from the KMDA. The tunnel, covering a distance of 3.8 km, is being dug from Sakher Bazar to James Long Sarani with the use of a TBM.

An engineer involved in the project said that “every 200 to 300 metres in the tunnel, pits are being dug out and pipelines are being laid from one pit to the other. This micro-tunnelling process is a convenient option since to carry out the work, no traffic restrictions need to be imposed on the road over the tunnel. Soon the work will be completed.”
