Darjeeling MP Raju Bista today claimed that the allocation of funds for the development of railway network and its infrastructure for West Bengal has been tripled compared to UPA regime.
“During the tenure of the UPA government, the average annual budget allocation for railway development in West Bengal stood at a mere Rs 4,380 crore. However, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this allocation has been tripled to Rs 13,810 crore per year. This significant increase underscores our government’s dedication to accelerating the progress of railway projects in West Bengal.”
“Indian Railways is undertaking 44 projects spanning 4,209 kilometres in length, at a total cost of Rs 50,915 crore in the state,” Mr Bista added.

According to him, the central government is also spearheading the development of 98 stations across West Bengal as Amrit Bharat stations, including key hubs such as Siliguri Junction, New Jalpaiguri Junction, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Aluabari Road, Dalkhola, Dhupguri, Haldibari, and other stations in North Bengal. Moreover, railway authorities constructed 22 rail flyovers and under-bridges, installed 110 foot-over bridges, and facilitated the installation of 63 lifts and 53 escalators, enhancing passenger convenience and safety.
Darjeeling MP also said: “The Indian Railways is on the verge of achieving 100 per cent electrification of rail lines in West Bengal. Whereas under the UPA, the annual pace of rail line electrification averaged at 32 kilometres, our government has ensured a remarkable 180 kilometres of electrification per year. By the end of the fiscal year 2023-24, the centre government is set to complete electrification covering 329 kilometres, representing a tenfold increase compared to the average achieved during the UPA era.”
“I am pleased to report significant improvements in passenger facilities at Darjeeling and Kurseong railway stations. Modernization of Tindharey rail workshop is underway, and the construction of the Sevoke-Rangpo Rail Line is progressing at a commendable pace,” he added.
