Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee pledged to take stern action against party leaders and workers against whom complaints of muscle flexing and extortion are lodged. Anyone living in Diamond Harbour constituency can send a Whatsapp message to phone number 7887778877 to register their complaints, said Mr Banerjee, who held an administrative meeting at Diamond harbour constituency on Saturday.
He said on receiving complaints the administration will conduct inquiry and anyone found guilty will not be spared. He said some party leaders were engaged in muscle flexing and extortion and asked them to give up the malpractice. “ Anyone found guilty of extortion will be taken to task and no one will be spared,” he said. Earlier, from the podium of the Martyrs’ Day observation on 21 July, Mr Banerjee had said he had taken a short leave of two months from politics and during this period he has prepared a blueprint how the party could be run in a more transparent manner.
He said the new steps would be evident within two months. It may be recalled that Trinamul Congress chairperson Miss Mamata Banerjee and Mr Abhishek Banerjee have spoken over and again that corrupt leaders have no place in the party. Political observers said before the civic election which is scheduled to be held in 2025 and the Assembly election due in 2026, the Trinamul Congress wants to project a clean image. Complaints of extortion have been lodged against some local leaders and the party will go all out to remove leaders without a clean image.
