State set to reap benefit from DSP, IISCO expansion: Director
Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) will further enhance its production by one million tonnes annually, while IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur will enhance further four million tonnes.

Five people have suffered critical burn injuries after a molten hot metal spilled on them at basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) of central public sector Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) today morning.
The injured included senior manager Prithviraj Ray, permanent employee Somnath Ghosh, trainee workers Binay Kumar Harijan and Sarbajit Dhangar and contract worker Chittaranjan Mondal.

Later, Prithvijit Ray, Binay Kumar Harijan and Sarbajit Dhangar were shifted to a private super speciality hospital as their health conditions worsened.
After hearing the news, Brijendra Pratap Singh, director in-charge of IISCO Steel Plant and Durgapur Steel Plant rushed to the hospital to meet the victims.
Pradip Majumdar, state panchayat minister, INTTUC West Burdwan district president, Abhijit Ghatak etc also rushed to the hospital.
“The management of DSP should ensure the safety of its workers and employees. We demand free-of-cost treatment and compensation of the injured persons. The conditions of three of them are very serious,” added Pradip Majumdar.
Abhijit Ghatak, INTTUC president said the machines have become very old and needs to be modernised. His elder brother, state law minister Moloy Ghatak is also likely to visit the hospital tomorrow, sources said.
DSP official sources said that the authority has taken immediate measures to shift the injured to the hospital. A high-level committee will be formed to probe the accident.
