At a time when the adenovirus scare has gripped the city, 430 persons have been found to be suffering from tuberculosis at Chetla Hat Road and its adjoining areas in the southern parts of Kolkata.

The news has come as a concern to many and taking cognizance of the situation, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation is taking initiatives to address it.

According to KMC mayor Firhad Hakim, the infected residents have an unhy- gienic lifestyle.

“Some of the people suf- fer from malnutrition while a few live in a very congested place. Some of the people even share the same tap from which they get infected. However, there is an urban health centre under the Institute of Public Health. “Tests have been conducted by the Institute of Public Health and they have taken over the matter,” said the mayor.

The mayor also informed that the civic body is also looking into the matter.

Notably, amid the spike in cases of adenovirus infections among children, a cri- sis for bed has been reported in various city hospitals. To address the problem, the civic body is said to have identified some places where arrangements for treatment of the disease can be made
