State BJP president arrested on way to violence-hit Beldanga
BJP West Bengal president Sukanta Majumdar was preventively arrested by Kotwali police on Wednesday afternoon while attempting to visit violence-hit Beldanga in Murshidabad district.
According to police, the trio had abducted the two girls between 2 pm and 3pm yesterday afternoon.
Two minor girls, who begged outside the Kalighat temple and stayed on the pavement, were allegedly abducted and gangraped near an ashram on the banks of Adi Ganga by three teenage boys. While two of the three accused have been arrested following a complaint lodged by the girls with Kalighat police station, police are conducting a search to nab the third accused.
According to police, the trio had abducted the two girls between 2 pm and 3pm yesterday afternoon. The girls begged for alms in front of the Kalighat temple. “The three boys then took the girls near Adi Ganga near Machandi ashram and gangraped them at that spot,” said a senior police officer at Lalbazar. “We are talking to the girls and interrogating the two boys to find out more details about the incident and whereabouts of the third accused.
A team of forensic experts are trying collecting evidence from the scene,” the officer added. “The preliminary medical examination of the two girls has already been conducted. We have identified the third accused and we will be able to nab him by tomorrow,” said DC (south) Meeraj Khalid. The accused have been booked under section 363 (kidnapping) of the IPC and section 6 of POCSO Act.
