UP records 49.3% polling in by-elections; exit polls predict BJP to win maximum seats
Minor reports of violence were received from Meerapur, Sismau, and Kundarki assembly segments, but by and large, the voting was peaceful, EC officials claimed.

Seven assembly seats fall under Asansol Lok Sabha seat while two assembly segments fall under BurdwanDurgapur Lok Sabha seat. As many as 81 companies of central forces have been deployed by the Election Commission of India in these constituencies.
Out of the 1,165 booths declared critical, 930 booths fall under the Asansol Lok Sabha seat while 230 booths fall under the Burdwan-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat. Around 5472 state police personnel will also assist the Central Armed Police Forces. The voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow. The District Electoral Office has announced a helpline number for assistance ~ 0341-2250324. There are a total 2498 booths in nine assembly constituencies in West Burdwan District.
Seven assembly constituencies which falls under Asansol Lok Sabha seat are Asansol North, Asansol South, Barabani, Kulti, Raniganj, Jamuria, Pandaveswar and two assembly constituencies which fall under Burdwan-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat are Durgapur East and Durgapur West. There are two heavyweight ministers from the district ~ law, judiciary and labour minister Moloy Ghatak from Asansol North and panchayat minister Pradip Mazumdar from Durgapur East seat.

The West Bengal-Jharkhand border will remain sealed and all liquor shops will remain closed in West Burdwan district tomorrow. While former cricketer Kirti Azad is contesting against Dilip Ghosh, former state president of BJP, and Sukrit Ghoshal, former professor of Burdwan Raj College of the CPM in Burdwan-Durgapur, in Asansol Shatrughan Sinha of the TMC is contesting against Surendrajit Singh Ahluwalia of the BJP and Jaharnara Khan of the CPM.
