Stepping up attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta on Monday said that the ruling dispensation and its representatives are not interested in development projects in the national capital. He accused the state government of misleading Delhiites with slogans about transforming the city into Singapore, London, or Paris.

Referring to information provided through an RTI by the Delhi government’s Urban Development Department, he said, “Despite the party’s promise to provide world class services to Delhi’s 20 million people, its MLAs failed to fully utilise the funds allocated for the development of their constituencies.”

Alleging that many AAP MLAs did not spend their allocated funds on the development of their constituencies, he said, “For instance, Pawan Sharma, the AAP MLA from Adarsh Nagar, and Satyendar Jain, the former minister and MLA from Shakur Basti, did not spend any amount of the Rs 4 crore allocated to them for developmental work in their areas. Similarly, Devli MLA Prakash Jarwal spent only Rs 19.36 lakh, and Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan spent just Rs 1.17 crore on development projects.”

Vijender claimed that the BJP, which has always been committed to continuous development under the slogan ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, saw its MLAs utilising a substantial portion of their allocated funds for developmental work.

“According to the information provided by the Urban Development Department, BJP MLA Jitender Mahajan from Rohtas Nagar spent Rs 4.40 crore, Gonda MLA Ajay Mahawar spent Rs 4.10 crore, Gandhinagar MLA Anil Bajpai spent Rs 4.09 crore, Karawal Nagar MLA Mohan Singh Bisht spent Rs 4.05 crore, and he spent Rs 4.03 crore, and Vishwas Nagar MLA Om Prakash Sharma spent Rs 4.03 crore on developmental activities,” he informed.

Stating that this indicates all BJP MLAs took great interest in the development of their constituencies with each spending over Rs 4 crore on projects, he reacted to Atishi’s recent decision to increase the MLA fund, saying “it makes no difference to AAP MLAs, as they lack both interest and willpower to carry out developmental work, regardless of the amount of funds available.”

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, all BJP MLAs remain committed to addressing the problems faced by the people of Delhi and to the development of their constituencies.
