With the Samajwadi Party and other Opposition parties upping the ante over the death of Mangesh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh police, on Thursday, produced all the evidence to prove that the encounter in which he was killed was genuine.
The encounter took place after a dacoity at a jewelry shop in Sultanpur.
Releasing the CCTV footage of the robbery that took place at Bharat Jewelers in Sultanpur on August 28, DGP Prashant Kumar said whatever action has been taken so far by the police, in this case, has been taken keeping in mind the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
The DGP also released a photo of the CCTV footage showing Mangesh Yadav present at the crime scene along with his accomplices, Aniket, Arbaz, Anuj Pratap Singh, and Furkan.
A total of 15 criminals were involved in the crime with Vipin Singh being their leader.
He accused the Opposition of making misleading statements on the matter devoid of facts.
He said Vipin Singh, a resident of Tiloi, Amethi, was also involved in the robbery of Mukund Jewelers in Lucknow and a jeweler in Gujarat. The police have recovered 1.2 kg of gold in a steel box, looted in the robberies, kept by him in a vacant plot near his house.
ADG (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash challenged the Opposition’s claim that Mangesh was at home at the time of the dacoity quoting his family members who accepted that he was not with them. However, SP President Akhilesh Yadav continued to attack the state government accusing the BJP of making the state the capital of fake encounters.
The SP chief claimed on Thursday that Mangesh Yadav was abducted from his home before killing. He said the police officer was in slippers at the encounter.
“False encounters are taking place in UP. Till now, a maximum number of people from the PDA (“pichre” (backward), Dalit and “alpashankhak” (minority) have been killed in the encounter,” he said.
The UP Police, which was the target of Opposition parties after the killing of Mangesh Yadav, who had a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, in an encounter was a big success on Wednesday. They arrested four accused at the behest of Vipin Singh and claimed to have recovered 100 per cent of the gold jewelery looted from the bullion shop. The weight of the recovered jewelry is 2 kg 633 grams. A reward of Rs 1 lakh each was placed on the arrested accused. Now, the arrest of six accused, including unknown persons, is pending in this case.
On August 28, in broad daylight, five masked dacoits entered the shop of bullion businessman Bharat Ji Soni in Thatheri Bazaar of Chowk and looted a huge amount of gold and silver jewelry and three lakh rupees at gunpoint. In this case, three miscreants have been arrested in the encounter.
During the encounter, one person was killed by the STF the mastermind, Vipin Singh, had gone to jail after appearing in the Rae Bareli court in an old case. According to the police, a total of 15 people, including an unidentified person, were involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), taking a suo moto cognizance of encounter killing, summoned a report from the district magistrate on the case by September 27. It will hear the case on September 30.
Allahabad High Court advocate Dr. Gajendra Singh Yadav had complained about the matter to the Commission.
On the other, hand Azad Adhikar Sena will celebrate September 13 as Police Killing Protest Day in protest against all the controversial police encounters in the state including the Mangesh Yadav encounter. National President and former IPS Amitabh Thakur has raised questions on such encounters.
