Trouble erupted again in Sandeshkhali when some BJP supporters beat up a youth alleging that he had made a fake video distorting the facts of the unrest in the area. Women supporters of the BJP raided the youth’s house and beat him up. The trouble between Trinamul Congress and BJP resumed after Trinamul Congress uploaded a video where two mandal presidents of BJP were heard saying that false cases of rape was filed with the police.
Mrs Rekha Patra who had organised the women to protest against illegal activities in Sandeshkhali is fighting the Lok Sabha election from Barasat on a BJP ticket. Meanwhile, Trinamul Congress has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner against Rekha Sharma, chairperson National Women Commission ( NWC) and other BJP leaders whom it alleges conspired to disturb the peace in Sandeshkhali.
Trinamul Congress leaders requested the CEC to take steps to restrain the BJP from making further false, unverified allegations against Trinamul Congress leaders. In the letter, Trinamul leaders alleged that a woman alleged that Mrs Sharma and Mrs Piyali Das had forced her to sign on a blank paper without knowing its purpose. When she had gone to the police station, the BJP leaders had threatened her with dire consequences. Both Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee during their addresses at political rallies today came down heavily on the BJP for engineering false narratives at Sandeshkhali to malign the state.
