Within 24 hours of BJP candidate Subhas Sarkar’s controversial bid to ‘buy’ votes in the name of MPLAD fund in Bankura, it’s now turn of Sujata Mondal, the TMC candidate for the Bishnupur Lok Sabha seat to threaten to ‘boycott’ localities where she’d be failing to gather votes.
Sujata was campaigning in the village adjacent wards of the Bishnupur municipal town from where her party couldn’t secure substantial votes both in 2019 LS polls as well as in the 2021 Assembly election. In a viral video footage, Sujata was seen warning the voters: “Our government always stands beside you and extends every possible facility round the year, still you all are voting for the BJP in every election. Why?” Then she’s heard saying: “If you continue to do the same in 2024, we’ll have to rethink the future days. Not only will I stop visiting your quarters, I’ll see that none of my party men visit you in future.”
Sujata had visited the same localities in 2021 asking for votes for her former husband Soumitra Khan.
