Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised the NDA government’s dedicated endeavors to elevate the North Eastern region into an “engine of growth.”
Speaking at the ‘Viksit Bharat Ambassador Campus Dialogue’ held at IIT-Guwahati on Thursday, the finance minister reaffirmed the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to bridging the developmental gap between the North-Eastern states and the rest of the country, ensuring equal opportunities for all regions.

Highlighting the transformative impact of developmental programs initiated under the Modi Government over the past decade, Sitharaman underscored a significant shift in the development trajectory of the North-Eastern region.
She contrasted this with the neglect it faced under previous regimes, stressing the special emphasis and focus laid on its growth since 2014.
Sitharaman echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on completing projects after their foundation is laid, highlighting the inefficiencies in project execution observed before 2014.
Addressing the importance of timely project completion for bolstering India’s global reputation, she reiterated the PM’s commitment to not only initiating but also ensuring the timely execution of projects, which has particularly benefited the North-Eastern region.
Emphasising the Northeast’s pivotal role in the government’s development agenda, Sitharaman highlighted the frequent visits by the prime minister and other central ministers to the region. She elaborated on the government’s concerted efforts to foster growth and development in the Northeast, showcasing various initiatives undertaken by the BJP government aimed at transforming the region into an “engine of growth”.
