Describing it as a “historical” series, Thakur emphasized its potential to enlighten today’s youth about the nation’s past struggles and triumphs.
Addressing the audience, Thakur underscored the importance of understanding India’s journey, particularly in the context of its emergence as a global force under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He expressed aspirations for India to ascend to the rank of the world’s third-largest economy, a goal achievable with collective support.
Highlighting the OTT series’ focus on the sacrifices made by freedom fighters, Anurag Thakur emphasized the need to cherish and learn from India’s rich history. Drawing parallels to the colonial era, he warned against contemporary forces seeking to sow division, urging unity and pride in the nation’s heritage.

Thakur lauded the meticulous research that underpins the series, which aims to rejuvenate the spirit of ‘swaraj’ and honor the visionaries who shaped India’s destiny.
The serial, spanning from Vasco-da-Gama’s arrival in 1498 to the fervent struggles of more recent times, portrays a diverse array of heroes. From lesser-known figures like Rani Abbakka and Bakshi Jagabandhu to iconic figures such as Rani Lakshmibai and Maharaj Shivaji, ‘Swaraj’ offers a comprehensive narrative of India’s quest for independence.
