Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today urged people not to fill up the forms to get citizenship under the CAA, saying that the moment they do that their names will be scrapped and they will be termed as outsiders. Miss Banerjee reiterated that the CAA and NRC (National Register of Citizens) will not be implemented in Bengal. “It is the biggest hoax, biggest julma of BJP.
If somebody has Aadhaar card, voter card then how can they be called an outsider,” she asked. She was addressing a gathering after handing over different benefits under various state-run schemes at Banipur Maidan in Habra in North 24-Parganas this afternoon.

She said categorically that no detention camp will be set up in Bengal. “Remember, out of 19 lakh people who had been sent to the detention camps in Assam, 13 lakh were Hindus. So long as I am here I will not allow any one’s rights to be taken away.” “Under CAA, Indian citizenship will be given to the Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Jains.
But Muslims will not be given citizenship under CAA,” she said. She launched the Karmashree schcme under which 50 days’ guaranteed work will be given to people holding job cards under the MGNREGA. Miss Banerjee said the BJP has announced CAA just before the Lok Sabha election just to divide the people. “It is their policy. They believe in divisive politics,” she said. Calling the BJP the “most corrupt and worst political party in the country”, Miss Banerjee said: “BJP is letting loose the ED and CBI to scare the Opposition leaders.
Some days ago ED had visited the house of one of our leaders. Later, he received a phone call from a BJP leader who told him not to campaign in the ‘BJP areas’ or face consequences. You cannot expect this to continue for all time and when the wheel turns, the same agencies will be sent against you,” she warned.
Speaking later in a gathering in Siliguri, Miss Banerjee termed the CAA a Draconian law, and asked what was the reason behind enforcing it just a few days before the general elections. Quoting some parts of the rules, especially on declaration of valid citizen based on a cut-off date, Miss Banerjee said: “It is going to totally deprive the rights ofpeople. I am against the CAA rules and would like to say the BJP should have thought before its notification.”
