A total of 13 candidates filed their nomination papers for an equal number of seats in the biennial polls for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council here on Monday, the last date for filing of the nominations.

Among the candidates seven are from the BJP and three are from NDA partners while the Samajwadi Party (SP) fielded three candidates.

All seven BJP candidates filed nominations in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other party leaders.

Prominent among those who filed nominations for the Legislative Council were BJP candidates Vijay Bahadur Pathak, Dr. Mahendra Kumar Singh, Ashok Kataria, Mohit Beniwal, Dharmendra Singh, Ramtirath Singhal, and Santosh Singh.

Ashish Patel from Apna Dal (S) also filed his nomination. It is noteworthy that he is a minister in the Yogi Government.

Furthermore, Vichhelal Rajbhar filed his nomination from SBSP (Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party), and Yogesh Chaudhary from RLD.

Samajwadi Party has fielded Balram Yadav, Guddu Jamali and Kiran Pal Kashyap.

Tomorrow, the nomination papers will be scrutunised and March 14 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations.
