The Congress on Saturday hit back at the BJP for accusing former party president Rahul Gandhi of running away from UP’s Amethi parliamentary seat, and asked the saffron party why it is so much worried about Gandhi.
“We only released the list of 39 candidates yesterday. Wait for our list. Why is the BJP so much worried about Rahul Gandhi now? We will win Amethi and Rae Bareli, we are very much confident,” Congress general secretary in-charge of Organization KC Venugopal told reporters.
Attacking the BJP, the senior party leader said, “These people are trying to create an impression that they are everything. The people of India are everything, not the BJP or Narendra Modi. People of India will decide the future of India. We are very much confident in the people of India.”
On Friday, the Congress released the first list of 39 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, including Gandhi, who has been fielded from Kerala’s Wayanad, the constituency he currently represents.
Since the announcement of Gandhi’s candidature from Wayanad, the BJP has stepped up its attack on him, asking why he is not contesting from Amethi, which the Congress considers as its bastion.
In a post on X, BJP’s in-charge of IT department Amit Malviya said, “Rahul Gandhi won’t contest from Amethi ? Scared ?”.
In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Rahul contested from Amethi and Wayanad parliamentary seats. Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani defeated Gandhi in Amethi.
