The Amethi District Congress Committee has started gearing up after they received an indication from the party high command that Rahul Gandhi could be the candidate from Amethi again.

Amethi Congress District President Pradeep Singhal met Priyanka Gandhi in Delhi on Monday. It is being claimed that after meeting, Priyanka asked him to prepare for the polls as
‘Amethi is our family.’

Party sources here on Wednesday said that during the meeting, the District President informed Priyanka that there is a situation of doubt in Amethi and people are worried whether Rahul Gandhi will contest from the family turf or not .
Priyanka told the District President to go and prepare for the elections. “Amethi is our family and family relationships will remain intact. The person whom Amethi wants to see as a candidate in the Lok Sabha election will contest,” she told the District President.

District Congress President Pradeep Singhal returned to Amethi from Delhi on Wednesday after the confirmation of Rahul Gandhi’s election from Amethi by Priyanka Gandhi.

Later, the Congress District President confirmed to the district leaders that he met Priyanka in Delhi and she hinted at Rahul Gandhi’s decision to contest the election from Amethi.

At present, the Congress candidates list is yet to be released as an official confirmation of Rahul Gandhi contesting the Amethi Lok Sabha elections.

On February 19 Rahul Gandhi visited Amethi by leading his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and addressed a public meeting.

But he did not say anything about his plan to contest from Amethi though party’s media in-charge Jairam Ramesh had definitely said that there is an atmosphere of Rahul Gandhi’s return in Amethi.

Rahul Gandhi contested his first election from the 14th Lok Sabha in 2004 from Amethi and got 390784 votes. He won by 290853 votes.

In 2009, Rahul Gandhi got 464195 votes in the 15th Lok Sabha elections. This time victory was achieved by 378198 votes. In 2014, current Union Minister Smriti Irani contested against Rahul Gandhi as a BJP candidate.

In the election, Rahul Gandhi got 408651 votes and Smriti Zubin Irani got 300748 votes. In this election, Rahul Gandhi’s victory figure reduced and came down to 107903.

In the 2019 election, the Union Minister Smriti Irani got 468514 votes while Rahul Gandhi got 413394 votes. In this election, the Union Minister won by 55120 votes.

Union Minister Smriti Irani has been declared a candidate in the list released by BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

Since 2014, the Union Minister has been continuously interacting with the people by staying in the parliamentary constituency and becoming a part of the happiness and sorrow of the people.

Even today, the MP was in Amethi distributing prizes of sports competitions and joining Jan Samvad Yatra.
