The 16th Finance Commission on Wednesday invited applications for the post of economic adviser, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.
The designation will be at Level-14 (Joint Secretary level) of pay matrix as per 7th CPC on deputation/contract basis. The Commission has uploaded the eligibility, job responsibilities, emoluments and application form on its website.
Last month, the government announced the appointment of three full-time members and one part-time member of the Commission.
This came after the appointment of Arvind Panagariya as Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission.
Former member of 15th Finance Commission and the Finance and Expenditure Secretary Ajay Narayan Jha was appointed as full-time member along with Annie George Mathew, former Special Secretary in Department of Expenditure and Niranjan Rajadhyaksha, Executive Director of Artha Global.
Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Group Chief Economic Advisor of public sector lender State Bank of India (SBI), was appointed as a part-time member in the Commission.
The 16th Finance Commission is expected to submit its recommendations by October 31, 2025, covering an award period of five years beginning April 1, 2026.
The Commission mainly decides the tax sharing formula between the Centre and the states.
