Delhi Congress chief meets family of youth stabbed to death in NE Delhi
The Congress leader was accompanied by former MP Sandeep Dikshit to a ‘Didi’ who runs an “Aap Ki Rasoi’, a homely kitchen serving people affordable meals.
Demolition of a house without providing alternate accommodation is simply inhuman, says Delhi Congress chief
The Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely on Friday condemned the demolition drive carried out by the DDA at Khajoori Khas razing the house of a rat miner Wakeel Hasan who had helped in the Silkyara tunnel rescue mission.
He called the demolition without making alternative arrangements ‘inhuman and illegal”.
Lovely expressed shock over the manner the house was torn down at a time when his children’s board exams were approaching.

Taking a dig at the Centre, the Delhi Congress chief said this is the reward to the person who was instrumental in saving 41 workers from Uttarakhand’s Silkyara tunnel that had collapsed last year from the government.
He claimed that the demolition by the Central agency was carried out without giving him (Hasan) any notice or making any alternate arrangements.
Addressing Congress workers at the DPCC office on Friday, Lovely alleged that the DDA has been demolishing the dwelling units of the poor people living in the JJ Clusters and unauthorised colonies for the past few weeks under the guise of the court order with an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to render thousands of poor people roofless.
He further said when pressure started mounting on the DDA, it offered alternative accommodation to Hasan under the PM Awas Yojna, but at a far-off place. This is the reason the rat miner rejected the offer as he wanted accommodation near his demolished house.
Lovely asked what was going to happen with the other thousands of poor people who have been rendered roofless. He said the government should give alternate accommodation to all those who lost their places to live, and that too near their demolished homes.
