Brothers Bivas Ghosh (29) and Prabhas Ghosh (30) were found mysteriously hanging from the tree in two separate farmlands in Kalna last evening, which has sparked off tension in the area.
The deceased brothers were residing at Patuli locality within the Purbasthali PS area in Kalna. They were sons of a solvent farmer Basudev Ghosh and used to work in their family farm. On Wednesday afternoon, according to Basudev, “Both my sons had gone to supervise grinding of mustard crops harvested in our farmland.”
The farmland is located barely 2km away from their house. When the grinder operator complained that the brothers kept him waiting in the field for several hours but didn’t turn up till evening, the locals started a hunt for Bivas and Prabhas.
As stated by Gopal Ghosh, cousin brother of the deceased youths, “While searching for them for nearly 40 minutes in the mustard field, we first found their bicycle lying on the ground and then we saw Prabhas hanging from a mango tree, but Bivas couldn’t be located there.”
On the opposite end, about 2km further to the mustard field, Bivas was found hanging from another tree. The police later recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem.
The police have initiated a probe. Rakesh Chowdhury, SDPO, Kalna, said, “Bodies of the brothers didn’t bear marks of any injuries. We suspect they committed suicide by hanging.” Grandfather of the deceased brothers also had committed suicide by hanging in their farmland about 10 years ago, the family members told police.
