Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for dedicating the first electric train to the Valley.
PM Modi is scheduled to flag off the first electric train in the valley and train service between Sangaldan station & Baramulla station along with several other development projects today.
“We needed it. It is important for our tourism and people. This is a big step that has been taken today. I congratulate the Railway Ministry, PM Modi for this..,” Abdullah said.
His remarks came days after he announced that the National Conference will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir on its own strength.
“As far as seat sharing is concerned, I want to make it clear the National Conference will contest elections on its own strength. There are no two opinions about it,” Abdullah told reporters.
There is also buzz over his likely return to the NDA fold ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The National Conference was part of the NDA during Atal Bihari Vajpayee”s time.
However, his son Omar Abdullah denied the rumours and said there is no possibility of going with the NDA and that the National Conference continues to remain an INDIA bloc member.
“We continue to remain a member of the INDIA alliance. What the party president Farooq Abdullah talked about today was a reflection of what the cadre of the party feels. The National Conference has been clear with the fact that we would rather fight elections on all seats, but sometimes for a bigger objective, small sacrifices have to be made,” Abdullah said.
