Jailed SP leader Azam Khan figures in party’s star campaigners’ list
The inclusion of jailed party leader Mohammad Azam Khan in the list has caught everyone by surprise.
It is being reported that he was upset at not getting the Rajya Sabha ticket.
Principal opposition Samajwadi Party’s troubles are increasing by the day after candidates were announced for the Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
On Sunday, another national general secretary of the party, Saleem Sherwani, resigned from his post. It is being reported that he was upset at not getting the Rajya Sabha ticket.
Earlier, Swami Prasad Maurya, General Secretary of the party had resigned from the post while party MLA Pallavi Patel had announced not to vote for SP candidates in the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on February 27.

In a letter written to party chief Akhilesh Yadav regarding his resignation, Sherwani accused him of neglecting Muslims and said the SP is losing the trust of Muslims.
He said that being upset with the neglect of Muslims in the party, he was resigning from the post of General Secretary. ”I will make a decision regarding the future soon,” he has added.
The SP leader claimed that Muslims were constantly feeling neglected and no Muslim was sent to the Rajya Sabha elections either. ”Of course my name was not considered but any Muslim could have been given the seat. Muslims are in search of a true leader. I feel that while being in SP, I cannot bring much change in the condition of Muslims,” he had stated.
Sherwani has further alleged that ”the way you( Akhilesh) took the name of PDA but looking at the list of candidates in Rajya Sabha, it seems that you yourself did not give any importance to PDA.”
The acronym PDA coined by Akhilesh stands for P (pichhada or backward classes), D (Dalits) and A (Alpsankhyak or minorities, including Muslims). The three communities, taken together, comprise roughly 80-85 per cent of the total population of the state.
