Jyotipriya Mallick was removed from the council of ministers in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet after three-and-a-half months of his arrest in October 2023.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) probing ration distribution scam in the state had arrested him at the end of October on charge of his alleged involvement in the case.
His portfolios were distributed among Partha Bhowmick, the irrigation minister and Birbaha Hansda, minister of state for forests, a press release issued by Raj Bhavan on Friday evening stated.

“In terms of Article 166 (3) of the Constitution, Governor Dr C V Ananda Bose has relieved Jyotipriya Mallick, minister in-charge, department of forests and department of public enterprises and industrial reconstruction of his duties as minister with immediate effect and has been pleased to reallocate the departments to Partha Bhowmick and Birbaha Hansdaon the advice of the Hon’ble Chief Minister,” the release stated.
Mr Bhowmick will hold the portfolio of public enterprises and industrial reconstruction while Mrs Hansda will look after the independent charge of the forest department.
According to sources at the state secretariat, Nabanna, a file proposing the changes in portfolios was sent to Raj Bhavan on Thursday.
According to a Trinamul Congress insider, Abhishek Banerjee, all India general secretary of the party, wants that the party leadership should not stand by those who are involved in corruption cases.
