Mimi Chakraborty, Trinamul Congress MP from Jadavpur, who is also an actor, has resigned from the parliament post citing reasons ‘too busy to stay in politics.’ She met the Trinamul Congress chairperson and chief minister Mamata Banerjee at the state Legislative Assembly on Thursday and submitted her resignation letter.
The resignation has not yet been accepted, it’s learnt. According to Trinamul Congress insiders, Miss Banerjee has assured the actress-cum-MP to look into her grievances. She has not yet submitted her resignation letter to the Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla. Her resignation to Miss Banerjee would not count as formal resignation.
Mimi has reportedly stated in her letter her grievances, saying, ‘Unhappy with the party’s local leadership’ in her Jadavpur constituency. She is aggrieved with noncooperation of some of her party’s local leadership while doing work as a people’s representative in the Jadavpur area. “I had submitted my resignation to my party chief on 13 February. I have understood in all these years that politics is not my cup of tea,” she was quoted by a new agency as saying.

Hardly couple weeks ago, another Trinamul Congress MP-cum-actor Dipak Adhikari alias Dev had also desired to quit the post but with interventions of Miss Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the party, he stayed back and would contest LS polls from Ghatal constituency, it is learnt. Mimi had won the Jadavpur seat in 2019 elections defeating veteran CPM leader-cumlawyer Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya.
