In yet another setback for the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Vibhakar Shastri resigned from the party on Wednesday.
Vibhakar, the grandson of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, announced his resignation from the party’s primary membership in a post on X.
“Hon’ble Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji! Respected Sir, I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of Indian National Congress,” he said.
Notably, his resignation comes days after former Maharashtra chief minister and Congress stalwart Ashok Chavan resigned from the party. Chavan was a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s highest decision making body.
He has since joined the BJP.
Chavan was the third leader from the Congress who severed ties with the party after Milind Deora and Baba Siddique in Maharashtra.
