The fifth Kumbh Mela was held at Triveni Sangam (Ganga, Saraswati and Yamuna, now Kunti river, confluence) at Kalyani, some 703 years back. However, for reasons unknown, the traditional Kumbh Mela at Triveni Sangam at Kalyani in Nadia district stopped but at the initiative of different religions leaders and organisations supported by the state government, the lost glory of Kumbh Mela at Kalyani has been revived.
Presently, Kumbh Mela at Triveni Sangam is drawing devotees and visitors in large numbers. Last year too, the Kumbh Mela took place at Triveni.
Kashi peeth Jagathguru Shankarachary Sri Swami Narendranand Saraswati ji Maharaj was present at the venue on the occasion. Thousands of devotees have gathered to receive the blessings of saints and sadhus and other holy persons present on the occasion to have holy dip in the Sangam.
As per the holy scriptures, Kumbh Mela usually takes place at Allahabad, Ujjain, Haridwar and Nasik. Sangam at Triveni also finds its mention as the fifth Kumbh Mela. Saints and sadhus, after taking a holy dip at Sagar, the holy persons on foot reached Triveni Sangam to take another holy dip in west Bengal.
The initiative taken by the state government to revive the lost glory of Kumbh Mela in Triveni at Kalyani has been hailed by religious leaders, sadhus and monks.
The Kashi Shankaracharya, while speaking to the media drew the attention on different non-political and political issues of the nation. The Shankaracharya said, “Different religious festivals aim to unite common people in the bondage of love. No nation can move ahead with communal ill feelings. Unity makes a nation strong and prosperous; everyone has the right to follow their own faith and belief. The contradictory views and opinions over the Ayodhya Ram Temple are baseless. Sri Ram is the guiding force of Sanatan dharma.”
Kashi Shankaracharya added, the political power at the Centre and different states should act firmly against forces trying to divide people and nation on irrelevant issues. “For political gains, parties should not compromise with the safety and security of the nation. Nation comes first,” said the seer.
