Opposition Congress MLAs in the Madhya Pradesh State Assembly on Monday protested the Income Tax summons issued to more than 50 party leaders of the state yesterday.

The Opposition MLAs alleged that the Union government under the BJP was misusing Central agencies to harass the Opposition leaders. However, they asserted that such tactics won’t scare them.

The Congress questioned the Income Tax Department sending the summons only to Opposition leaders.

On 11 February, the IT Department served summons on around 50 Congress leaders of MP, including Jhabua tribal MLA and MP Youth Congress President Dr Vikrant Bhuria, backward class leader Devashish Jarariya, and others.

Devashih Jarariya, a backward-class Congress leader from the Chambal region of the state said the ruling BJP dispensation was harassing the backward classes. He stated that he would lodge a police complaint under the atrocities of the SCs/STs Act against Income Tax officials.
