Aishwarya Rajinikanth reflects on how the viral sensation ‘Kolaveri’ overshadowed her film ‘3,’ highlighting the delicate balance between viral fame and cinematic success.
Director Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s latest film, “Lal Salaam,” made its debut on the big screen to much anticipation and applause on November 9th, 2024. The film, labeled as a gripping sports drama, has been garnering widespread praise for its compelling storyline and impactful themes.
In a recent interview, Aishwarya Rajinikanth opened up about her previous directorial venture, “3,” starring Dhanush and Shruti Haasan. Reflecting on the film’s journey, Aishwarya expressed her sentiments regarding the overwhelming influence of the sensational song, “Kolaveri,” on the overall reception of the movie.
According to Aishwarya, while “Kolaveri” undoubtedly attained immense popularity and recognition, its dominance overshadowed the essence of the film itself. She remarked, “The success of ‘Kolaveri’ brought both pressure and surprise. It deviated attention from the film’s core narrative, which was disappointing.”

Despite the initial setback, Aishwarya maintained her belief in the distinct vision she had crafted for “3.” She lamented the fact that the film failed to receive the recognition it deserved upon its release, with most discussions revolving around the viral song rather than the cinematic experience as a whole.
However, Aishwarya acknowledged the positive impact “Kolaveri” had on people’s lives, viewing it as a silver lining amidst the overshadowing of her film. She admitted, “While the song did not directly benefit the film’s success, its widespread appeal undoubtedly brought joy to many.”
“3,” released in 2012, captivated audiences with its unique blend of romance and psychological thrills. Apart from Dhanush and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles, the film boasted a talented supporting cast including Sivakarthikeyan, Bhanupriya, Prabhu, and Sundar Ramu.
Behind the scenes, the cinematography was skillfully handled by R. Velraj, complemented by the seamless editing expertise of Kola Bhaskar. Together, they contributed to the visual allure and narrative coherence that defined the cinematic experience of “3.”
