As the country braces itself for the forthcoming parliamentary elections, Trinamul Congress leader Mahua Moitra, currently serving as the district president of the party’s Nadia north unit, has undertaken a significant reshuffling of the party’s portfolios, particularly focusing on block presidents in the district.

This strategic move comes amidst a backdrop of political maneuvering and preparations for the electoral battle ahead.

The reshuffle follows a crucial assurance from the party chairperson chief minister Mamata Banerjee, during a recent meeting held at Santipur in Nadia. Miss Banerjee pledged her support for Moitra’s candidacy in the upcoming polls, reaffirming her commitment to see Moitra re-elected to the Parliament, despite her recent expulsion from the Lok Sabha over allegations of involvement in a cash-for-query scandal.

Prior to facing parliamentary action, Mahua Moitra was reinstated as the district president of Nadia north district Trinamul Congress unit. To maintain equilibrium within the district committee, the party also appointed Rukbanur Rahman, MLA from Chapra, as the party’s district chairman.

In a significant development, Moitra lifted the suspension imposed on Jebber Sheikh, a prominent TMC leader in the Muslim-dominated area of Chapra. Sheikh, who had been suspended for alleged anti-party activities following his rebellion in the last assembly polls, has now been welcomed back into the fold of the party. His reinstatement signals a strategic move by Moitra to consolidate support in key constituencies ahead of the parliamentary elections.

Jebber Sheikh’s pivotal role in securing a record-winning margin for Mahua Moitra in the previous parliamentary polls from Chapra underscores his importance within the party’s electoral machinery. His return to the party fold is expected to bolster Trinamul Congress’ prospects in the upcoming polls, particularly in the Chapra constituency.

In a bid to ensure a well-planned balance among party functionaries in the Chapra block, the party has appointed Rajib Sheikh as the vice-president. Rajib’s induction, despite his past association with Rukbanur Rahman, signifies a strategic realignment within the party structure in favor of Jebber Sheikh.

Furthermore, Mahua Moitra has reshuffled block presidents in key constituencies, including Karimpur AC block and Tehatta AC block under Karimpur II. The appointment of Soumen Biswas and Kartick Mondol, both loyalists of Moitra, in place of Arjel Hauque and Rejaul Karim, who were aligned with the party’s Karimpur MLA Bimalendu Singh Roy, reflects Moitra’s efforts to consolidate her support base and neutralize potential dissent within the party ranks.

While no major allegations of infighting have been reported in other block units, the party sources anticipate that these strategic changes will inject new hope and vigor into Trinamul Congress’ campaign for the upcoming parliamentary polls.
