The Congress on Tuesday claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi was suffering from deep insecurities and complexes, a day after he took potshots at Jawaharlal Nehru in the Lok Sabha.

The party also asserted that the people of the country will oust the ruling dispensation in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Referring to Modi’s reply on the Motion of Thanks to president’s address, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said, “The prime minister was at his nonsensical worst in the Lok Sabha yesterday and undoubtedly will stage a repeat performance in the Rajya Sabha today. He suffers from deep insecurities and complexes which makes him attack Nehru not politically but personally in a vicious manner.”

Accusing Modi of demeaning his office, Ramesh, who is also the Congress’ MP in Rajya Sabha, said, “(Atal Bihari) Vajpayee and (LK) Advani never did this. But Modi being who he is, thinks he is being clever but actually demeans the office he holds. Megalomania and Nehruphobia are a toxic mix that is leading to the murder of democracy in India.”

“The people of India, especially the youth, have decided that this will be Modi’s last speech in Lok Sabha as the prime minister. ‘Das Saal Anyay Kaal’ will soon come to an end,” he wrote on X, in an apparent reference to the general elections.

Echoing similar sentiments, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lower House, Gaurav Gogoi noted, “Prime Minister Modi tried his best to counter INC president Mallikarjun Kharge’s speech in Rajya Sabha. While the latter remained dignified, the former seemed arrogant. ‘Maharaj’ should remember that arrogance was the downfall of Raavan.”

“People will end this arrogance in 2024,” he added.
