The demand for a new Khurigachi station between Baidyabati and Bhadreswar was first raised five decades back when more than four thousand people from Champdani signed a memorandum to press for their demand for the new railway station at Khurigachi.

The Chapdani residents, under the banner of Khurigachi Natun Railway Station Dabi Samity have not given up their demand. The members of the samity Subrata Ghosh and Abhimanyu Dholey, said, “An initiative was taken by Hooghly MP Locket Chatterjee and railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in this regard twice. Spot survey by the railways was also conducted. In 2023, a notification in this regard was also sent to Hooghly district magistrate but since then nothing has moved.”

The distance between Baidyabati and Bhadreswar by road is more than 7 km. Chapdani, a very densely populated town, is located in the midpoint of both Baidyabati and Bhadreswar. The residents of Champdani town to avail train services have to cover nearly 4 km on road to reach either of the railway stations. Hence, the demand came up for a new railway station between Baidyabati and Bhadreswar.

The members of the Samity have issued a warning for an intensified agitation from the first week of March if the project is further held up or delayed for reasons unknown.
