After Nitish Kumar’s resignation as Bihar chief minister, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday took an ‘Aaya Ram-Gaya Ram’ jibe at the JD(U) leader and said that they already knew about his decision.
“Earlier he and us were fighting together. When I talked to Lalu Ji and Tejashwi, they also said that Nitish is going. If he wanted to stay, he would have stayed but he wants to go. That’s why we already knew this, but to keep the India Alliance intact, if we say something wrong, the wrong message will be sent. This information was already given to us by Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav. Today that came true” Kharge said, adding “there are many people in the country like ‘Aaya Ram-Gaya Ram’.”
The remarks from the Congress chief came shortly after Nitish Kumar tendered his resignation from the post of Bihar CM to Governor Rajendra Arlekar.
Kumar informed the Governor about his decision to sever ties with the ‘Mahagathbandhan’.
The development comes amid a strong buzz in the power corridors of Patna that Nitish would rejoin the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), bringing an end to the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ rule in the state.
According to sources, a power sharing deal has already been finalised between his party JD(U) and the BJP. The two parties have also finalised seat-sharing in Bihar for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
A formal announcement in this regard is likely today.
Kumar, known for his frequent political u-turns, had ditched the NDA and joined the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) to form government in 2022.
Earlier today, the Bihar CM called a crucial meetings of JD(U) MLAs at his residence in Patna earlier this morning. During the meeting, the MLAs reportedly authorised him to take the final call.
