Cricket Australia (CA) on Wednesday announced a 14-member T20I squad for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies beginning February 9 in Hobart.

Mitchell Marsh will lead this 14-man side, with Glenn Maxwell also making a comeback in the shortest format.

Marsh previously led the Twenty20 team in August, 2023 against South Africa. The selection of a 32-year-old as captain is an unusual trend in cricket Australia, as many contenders were expected to assume the helm for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins, along with pacer Mitchell Starc and batter Steve Smith, have been rested for this series. However, Australia will be boosted by the return of Nathan Ellis, Glenn Maxwell, and Matt Short.

Meanwhile, David Warner, who just retired from Tests and ODIs, will reprise his position at the top of the order. Warner was Australia’s player of the tournament in 2021.
