Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging Himanta Biswa Sarma was the most corrupt Chief Minister in the country, accused him of spreading hatred and encroaching upon people’s land.

Addressing a gathering on Wednesday during Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra at Barpeta town in lower Assam, Gandhi stated, “The Chief Minister of Assam perpetuates hatred and encroaches upon your lands… if you consume betel leaves, the betel nut business belongs to him… he is the most corrupt chief minister.”

The verbal sparring between Gandhi and Sarma intensified during the yatra, leading Sarma to instruct the state police to file a criminal case against Gandhi for allegedly inciting a crowd after a clash between Congress workers and the police on the outskirts of Guwahati. Gandhi responded by characterising Sarma’s actions as intimidation tactics aimed at benefitting Congress party’s yatra.
