The Congress on Thursday said the upcoming ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra’ which will be led by its party leader Rahul Gandhi will be now called as ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra’ and it will cover 110 districts spread across 15 states.

The grand old party also said that the yatra which will begin from January 14 in Manipur’s Imphal, will also cover Arunachal Pradesh.

The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting convened by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge , along with Gandhi, with the party’s state presidents and CLP leaders at the party headquarters here.

During the meeting, which lasted for almost three hours, they also discussed at length about the preparations of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said, “The discussion today was with the Congress PCC presidents and CLP leaders. There were two items on the agenda. One, the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections, and the finalisation of the route for the yatra that was announced that Rahul Gandhi would lead, beginning on January 14 from Manipur.”

He informed that all the members who attended the meeting and the Congress president were of the unanimous view that the success of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ had got embedded in the minds of the people and the party should not lose the value of it.

“During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi had raised three big issues— the issue of rising economic equality, growing polarization and authoritarianism,. The way out of all these is to ensure justice to the people. The idea of justice is the idea of the yatra. It proved to be a transformative movement in Indian politics, everybody was of the unanimous view that we should combine the two . This yatra will now be called Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra,” Ramesh said.

He further said, “Based on the discussion, the route was finalised. We always had Arunachal Pradesh in mind. But originally we announced 14 states as there were some logistics and security issues to be sorted out. Those have been sorted out. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will cover 15 states including Arunachal Pradesh.We will cover 6,700 km in 66 days in 15 states spread across 110 districts.”

Ramesh , who is also the Congress MP in Rajya Sabha also invited all the leaders of the INDIA alliance and civil societies to take part in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

In response to a question on general elections, the MP said, “All the leaders present in the meeting said, we have to make the alliance stronger.”
