Gaurav Gogoi campaigns for Assam bypoll; faces protest
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday campaigned in the Samaguri Legislative Assembly constituency alongside Tanzil Hussain, son of MP Rakibul Hussain, for the upcoming by-election.
The election to the Srikaranpur assembly constituency, which was revoked during the recently-concluded assembly elections in the state, was rescheduled by the Election Commission.

The high-profile election campaign for the Srikaranpur assembly poll in Rajasthan to be held on January 5 was ended at 5 pm on Wednesday.
The election to the constituency, which was revoked during the recently-concluded assembly elections in the state, was rescheduled by the Election Commission.
The fate of Congress candidate Rupinder Koonar and BJP’s Surendra Pal Singh TT are among 12 contestants in the fray will be decided by 2.5 lakh voters by casting their vote.

Rupinder, son of late Gurmeet Singh Koonar (former Congress MLA), is banking on sympathy wave in his favour while BJP’S Surendra, who has already been made MoS in the Bhajan Lal Government, is projected by the party as a pillar of the new government who could fulfill the expectations the electorate, if elected.
Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Koonar, a contestant from Karanpur seat passed away after a short illness at AIIMS in Delhi on November 15. The Election Commission had rescheduled it on January 5. The election in 199 assembly seats were already held on November 25, and results were announced on December 3.
The counting of votes will take place on January 8.
It is worth mentioning here that Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded that the Election Commission should disqualify a BJP candidate, Surendera Pal Singh TT, from the Srikarapur assembly elections for flouting election laws and violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), especially clause 32, after he was sworn in as MoS (Independent Charge) in the Rajasthan government.
