HC notice to Odisha govt on removal of chairperson, members of women panel
The Department of Women and Child Development which conducted the performance review of the chairperson and members had found the Commission's performance unsatisfactory.

The anti-corruption vigilance wing of Odisha Police on Monday arrested an ophthalmologist in Subarnapur district headquarters hospital on bribery charges.
The ophthalmologist was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,500 from a complainant for conducting cataract surgery of his uncle, said officials.
The cataract surgery is conducted free at the government-run health facility. However Dr Sanjib Kumar Kar, ophthalmologist at the headquarters Hospital in Subarnapur, demanded monetary gratification from the complainant.
Harassed over extortion tactics, the complainant informed the vigilance sleuths. Accordingly a trap was laid. The doctor was caught red-handed while receiving the demanded amount in his government quarters.

When the complainant handed over the chemical-coated currencies to the accused at the predetermined spot, the sleuths caught him.
The ophthalmologist has been booked under various provisions of prevention of corruption act, said vigilance officials, adding that he would be remanded to judicial custody later today.
